Morocco

Morocco, Morocco, Morocco... what are you doing to me? I had always said I wanted to see the whole world before going to the same place twice, but this will be my third time to Morocco. Surely that's saying something. After all, I have enjoyed it immensely each time. Quite honestly? Nature in Cappadocia or Kyrgyzstan might be more impressive. But still I keep coming back - because of the fantastic horses, the friendly people and the special atmosphere. This is where I really feel at home.

M'Barek 3 day trek

How super nice of you to join me on this trip! This horse holiday lasts three days and we will make a beautiful trek together, with two nights' camping on the way. A truly special experience to be on the road with the horses and to spend the night in the middle of nature.

It is important to book your flight so that you arrive in time before the start of the trek and leave only after the trek is over, so you don't miss anything.

Extend your holiday and arrive in Morocco earlier or go home later? Then you arrange your own hotel and meals for these extra days. Of course I would love to think along with you and help you with tips or finding a nice place to stay, so please let me know if you want help with that!

I will also come a few days earlier to enjoy the town of Essaouira and to do a photo shoot with the horses. If you'd like that too, feel free to send me a message and we'll plan it together!

DAY 1
DAY 2
DAY 3

Day 1 (Friday 12 March)

This day your adventure begins! At 09:30 you are expected just outside the gates of the ancient city of Essaouira. Here you will meet the other participants of the trek. Once everyone is present, a short taxi ride of about ten minutes will take you to the stables, where you will meet the team and, of course, the horses! From the stables, the ride begins through vast argan forests, over soft sand dunes, past wide wild beaches and impressive cliffs along the Atlantic coast. Halfway there is a delicious picnic lunch, a great time to catch your breath. Then the drive continues towards the camp. On arrival, it's time to relax with of course traditional Moroccan tea and sweet treats, while the sun slowly sinks behind the Atlantic Ocean. In the evening, dinner will be served under a clear starry sky - a perfect end to an unforgettable day of adventure.

Day 2 (Saturday 13 March)

After breakfast you get back on the horse and depart for the Sidi M'Barek waterfalls. This day is all about riding: enjoying nature, galloping over the beach and a picnic lunch on the way. At the end of the day you will return to the same camp, so gear can just stay put. If the weather is good, there is even the chance to swim with the horses, an unforgettable moment to end the day!

Day 3 (Sunday 14 March)

Around 10:00 you will leave the camp again. The ride goes past pretty villages and of course over the beach, where there are plenty of moments to enjoy the view. At the end of the day, the most fun part is on the programme: a big gallop over the beach! This will also be captured on film from the quad. Around 17:00 you will return to the stables, after which a taxi will take you back to the city of Essaouira.

Accommodation

Marocco

They say that deep within the Moroccan Sahara, beyond the reach of any map, lies a hidden oasis protected by the djinn of the desert winds. At its centre grows a single, ancient palm tree that bears what the Berber horsemen call "Whispering Dates."

Legend has it that anyone who shares one of these dates with their horse at high noon will, for the rest of the day, understand its language perfectly. Not in words, but in pure thought. On her last journey, Susja was guided by a wise old man who, seeing her bond with her Barb stallion, Zayr, gifted her one such date.

After sharing the sweet fruit, the world transformed. Zayr's impatient snort was no longer just a sound; it was a clear, dry thought: "Finally. I was wondering if we were going to admire this particular dune all afternoon." A flick of his ear towards the Atlas Mountains was a question: "Are you sure about that path? I know a shortcut with much better grass."

For one magical afternoon, they were a single mind, navigating the ochre landscape not as rider and horse, but as two old friends on an adventure, trading stories of past journeys and complaining about the same pesky flies. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the connection faded back into the familiar, comfortable silence between a girl and her horse, leaving only the sweet taste of the date and a secret to smile about under the star-dusted Moroccan sky.
